Christmas Catalogs

Okay. Confession time.

I love Christmas catalogs.

LOVE them.

They are SO much fun! We got our first one in the mail this past week and I’ve purposefully left it on the coffee table just so I’ll accidentally glance it and then I get a big grin on my face. I look through every single catalog we get. I rarely order anything, but I definitely love getting them!

Christmas catalogs mean that Christmas is coming very soon! And with how fast this year has gone by, I’m pretty sure that I’ll blink and it will be my most favorite time in the whole year! 🙂

I already have big plans for this year. Last year, we spent Christmas with my in-laws (which was WAY fun!), so this year will be our first year in our own little house. Which means that this little house is going to be bursting with holiday cheer! You guys already know how nuts I get around December, but I have a feeling that this year is going to be even worse than normal! I’ve already planned out how we’re going to decorate, a few of the gifts I’m giving and I’ve had my eyes open for any deals on Christmas movies since Jon and I haven’t started our Christmas movie collection yet. 🙂

Okay, okay, I’ll tame down the Christmas spirit for all of you out there who believe we should get through Thanksgiving first. I think it’s annoying Kody. Just look at him:

So, to change the subject, does anyone have any fun (and cheap!) ideas on how to decorate the house for fall? Since I’m all excited about decorating for Christmas, I thought I’d channel that energy into something a little more timely. I’d like to try my hand at making some kind of a fall-ish wreath (I like the idea of using pinecones on it!) and I know I want to get some pumpkins for the front porch. Any cute ideas that you’ve got?

So… you all know my favorite season! What’s yours? What are fun ways that you celebrate it? 🙂

  1. Christmastime is DEFINITELY my favorite season. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it marks the start of Christmas season! (I always get super depressed after that last present has been opened under the tree and the rest of Christmas Day is kind of disappointing.)

But I love decorating, buying presents, listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas commercials, watching Christmas movies, making Christmas lists…

    Sigh.

    I could go on forever!

  2. Fall is my favorite time of the year, so I love to decorate for it also! I made pumpkin topiaries that sit on our front porch. You can use real pumpkins or do what I did and get them on sale at a craft store so you can re-use them every year. Also, twigs or fall foliage in a vase on the table is very pretty.

I just found your blog after finishing ReMatch. I love that series and can't wait to read the next one as well as your Maya Davis book. I have subscribed to your feed, so I'll stay caught up. Lauren Holbrook makes me laugh out loud. (:

  3. We have these two wall sconces that I like sticking bunches of silk autumn leaves in. With the light shining up through them it looks almost magical! We also have an antique set of pilgrims with various vegetables that we set around, alond with the usual cornucopia bursting with tiny gourds and pumpkins.

  4. OK, Stephany and Erynn – so WITH YOU GUYS on the love of the season. As far as I'm concerned, once we've passed Labor Day it's game-on for the fun of all things Harvest and then all things Christmas. Like you guys, I just get giddy about it all. (And January – March is pretty bleak….)

Erynn, I might have commented once before, but now I can comment again after having read all three of your "Match" books – I think I cried a bit with each of them, such a fun writing style, and even more fun after having "met you" on your blog, and discovering how much of your personality was reflected through Lauren.

As far as Harvest – go for the leaves and pumpkins and gourds and Indian corn – it can dress up an entry way in a huge way – especially if you snag a mini hay bale (at our local Michael's craft store) and a galvanized pail to load it up in.

Looking forward to the spring to start reading your new series – and am enjoying the meantime as your blog is so enjoyable……

  5. I just got that SAME catalog last week in the mail too. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stuff in there!! Already have pages dog-eared of things I am going to buy!! 😉
